Caramel Apples
Homemade caramel apples are the quintessential fall treat.

Learn how to make easy caramel apples with just a few ingredients: Your favorite apples (we love tart Granny Smiths or super crisp Galas), store-bought caramels (such as Kraft Traditional) and of course, toppings galore! The best caramel apple toppings include anything salty or crunchy to contrast the sweet, gooey caramel or anything chocolatey because chocolate + caramel is a match made in dessert heaven. It’s the perfect fall dessert recipe!
How do you keep caramel from sliding off apples?
There are a couple ways to ensure your delicious caramel sticks to the apples: First, wash and dry the waxy coating off the apples, which can prevent the caramel from sticking, and make sure the apples are completely dry. Cold apples can also keep that caramel from sliding, so consider popping the apples in the refrigerator for a few minutes until cold to the touch.
wooden lollipop or ice cream sticks
medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Gala)
14-oz pkg. caramels (such as Kraft Traditional), unwrapped
water
Chopped peanut butter candies (we used Reese’s Pieces)
Crushed pretzels
Chopped roasted pecans and mini chocolate chips
- Line large baking sheet with nonstick foil. Insert stick into stem end of each apple.
- In medium saucepan, combine caramels and water. Cook, stirring, on medium-low until caramels are completely melted and smooth.
- Slightly tip pan at an angle and dip 1 apple into caramel mixture, rotating to cover completely. Spin to help excess caramel drip off and scrape caramel off bottom of apple, then immediately press toppings onto top or bottom of caramel and transfer to prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples, caramel and toppings. Refrigerate until set, 10 to 15 min.
